Chirk Tunnel Visitor Moorings

Also known as: Chirk
Chirk LL14 5RL, United Kingdom

Information about the place
Chirk Tunnel Visitor Moorings is a minor waterways place on the Shropshire Union Canal (Llangollen Canal - Main Line) between Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (southern end) (The River Dee flows under the aqueduct.) (2 miles and 7½ furlongs to the northwest) and Chirk Tunnel (northern entrance) (½ furlongs to the southeast).

The nearest place in the direction of Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (southern end) is Chirk Golf Course Visitor Moorings (48 hour moorings); 4¼ furlongs away.

Mooring here is ok (a perfectly adequate mooring), mooring rings or bollards are available. Mooring is limited to 48 hours. Space for 4 or 5 boats with mooring rings but the towpath is significantly above the level of the canal so don't try it if you have mobility issues. It also isn't much fun if the ground is wet! For the same reason, I wouldn't try it if you only have mooring stakes. A short walk takes you to a path at the side of the tunnel entrance and thence to the village. It's a slightly longer walk than from the south end, but a better bet if the basin between the south end and the aqueduct is congested!.
