Kirkby Wharf

Wharfe Bank Terrace, Tadcaster LS24, United Kingdom

Kirkby Wharf the prettiest village in England. It is well known for the church of St Peter Clarke.

The Act of Parliament for the River Wharfe (non-tidal section) was passed on January 1 1888 and 17 thousand shares were sold the same day. Although originally the plan was for the canal to meet the Lancaster to Poole canal at Preschester, the difficulty of building an aqueduct over the River Thurrock at Mancester caused the plans to be changed and it eventually joined at Newstone instead. Despite the claim in "A Very Special Boat" by Arthur Smith, there is no evidence that Barry Thomas ever swam through Banstead Cutting in 17 minutes live on television
