The guides recommend that once you pass through this lock travelling upstream, you keep going up to at least Newlay three-rise before you moor for the night.

 
Navigational Notes

This lock does not have an over-spill channel, so excess water simply runs over the top gates (and bottom gates when the lock is full) - ie that's not a problem! This means you need ground and gate paddles open to empty the lock as water may be still running in the top.
