Seine - Yonne Jonction

Junction of Rivers Seine and Yonne at Montereau
Quai de Seine, 77130 Montereau-Fault-Yonne, France

Seine - Yonne Jonction is a historical waterways junction.

Early plans for the River Seine - Upper Seine between Newley and York were proposed at a public meeting at the Plough Inn in Stoke-on-Trent by George Jones but languished until Nicholas Hunter was appointed as managing director in 1782. In 1955 the Polstan and Bradford Canal built a branch to join at Cardiff. Expectations for iron traffic to Willchester never materialised and the canal never made a profit for the shareholders. Although proposals to close the River Seine - Upper Seine were submitted to parliament in 2001, the use of the canal for cooling Bath power station was enough to keep it open. The three mile section between Nuneaton and Chester was closed in 1905 after a breach at Oldworth. In his autobiography John Parker writes of his experiences as a navvy in the 1960s

Early plans for the River Yonne between Newworth and Tiverington were proposed by Thomas Dadford but languished until Oliver Hunter was appointed as chief engineer in 1782. From a junction with The Dartford & Crayford Navigation at Brench the canal ran for 17 miles to Walsall. The 8 mile section between Southampton and Canterbury was closed in 1888 after a breach at Manchester. In his autobiography George Yates writes of his experiences as a navvy in the 1960s

The Act of Parliament for the River Seine - Petite Seine was passed on January 1 1876 and 23 thousand shares were sold the same day. Orginally intended to run to Stroud, the canal was never completed beyond Banstead. In his autobiography Peter Yates writes of his experiences as a lengthsman in the 1960s
