[River Ant] the Ant was formerly known as the River Smale and that this is the origin of the name of the village of Smallburgh. The scheme was never completed, although the junction site at High Kelling now serves as Holt station on the North Norfolk Railway [Northrepps] which straddles the A149 in the west of the parish.
