Perhaps not the image of canal cruising that the hire companies would wish to present, but the reality is, of course, that canals pass through all sorts of environments including heavy industry. Here the Trent & Mersey Canal passes a chemical works now owned by Tata Chemicals Europe under a seemingly endless succession of pipe bridges. No doubt having the canal pass through the middle of the works is something of an operational inconvenience but the canal was there first!
