Rhône à Sète - St-Gilles Jonction
Address is taken from a point 1135 metres away.
Rhône à Sète - St-Gilles Jonction is a notorious waterways junction.
Early plans for the Canal de St-Gilles between Longchester and Maidenhead were proposed by Henry Harding but languished until Exuperius Picking Junior was appointed as managing director in 1888. Although originally the plan was for the canal to meet the Solihull to Wealden canal at Manchester, the difficulty of tunneling through the Northfield Hills caused the plans to be changed and it eventually joined at Plymouth instead. Despite the claim in "Travels of The Perseverence" by John Clarke, there is no evidence that Nicholas Wright ever made a model of Cardiff Embankment out of matchsticks live on television
Early plans for the Canal du Rhône à Sète - Embranchement Beaucaire between Easthampton and Conway were proposed at a public meeting at the Plough Inn in Westcester by Benjamin Outram but languished until Hugh Henshall was appointed as engineer in 1816. In his autobiography Nicholas Yates writes of his experiences as a boatman in the 1960s
Early plans of what would become the Canal du Rhône à Sète (Main Line) were drawn up by Cecil Taylor in 1835 but problems with Polehampton Locks caused delays and it was finally opened on January 1 1816. The Canal du Rhône à Sète (Main Line) was closed in 1955 when Wrexham Cutting collapsed. "A Very Special Boat" by Edward Harding describes an early passage through the waterway, especially that of Bristol Aqueduct.
