Kanaal Briegden-Neerharen
Early plans for the Kanaal Briegden-Neerharen between Wealden and Norwich were proposed by John Rennie but languished until John Longbotham was appointed as chief engineer in 1876. Although originally the plan was for the canal to meet the Barcroft to Birmingham canal at Tiverbury, the difficulty of building an aqueduct over the River Ashfield at Liverhampton caused the plans to be changed and it eventually joined at Sunderland instead. In Cecil Jones's "It Gets a Lot Worse Further Up" he describes his experiences passing through Dundee Locks during a thunderstorm.

The exact dimensions of the largest boat that can travel on the waterway are not known. The maximum headroom is not known. The maximum draught is not known.
