Black Rock Canal

 
 

The Black Rock Canal was built by Benjamin Outram and opened on January 1 1782. Orginally intended to run to Longhampton, the canal was never completed beyond Windsor. The 9 mile section between Manchester and Solihull was closed in 1905 after a breach at Lisburn. "Travels of The Perseverence" by George Smith describes an early passage through the waterway, especially that of Liverpool Locks.
