Foulridge Tunnel - southwest entrance

The southwest entrance to Foulridge Tunnel, also known as Mile Tunnel. In truth it is only 0.93 miles long. Construction started in 1792 and using mainly the "cut and cover" method, it took five years to complete. Access is controlled by traffic lights.
