Marple Aqueduct is a wonderful and spectacular bit of canal engineering, second only to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (imho) and because of the wide stone parapets either side, it doesn't feel nearly as exposed as its Welsh cousin, so is kinder to those of a nervous disposition. But if you stand (carefully) on the edge of the non-towpath side you realise that it's a very long way down, just like Pontcysyllte! Like Chirk, it has an adjacent railway viaduct to add even more interest to the scene.
