Extra instructions for large boats that need to use manually operated outer bottom gates

British Waterways (logo)

FULL LOCK OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

BOATS OVER 67 FEET OR 20.4 METRES LONG PLEASE USE FULL LOCK, FOLLOWING THE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS BELOW:

1. USE DOWNSTREAM PEDESTAL TO OPEN SLUICES AND GATES. (KEY RETAINED)

2. MANUALLY CLOSE BOTTOM GATES AND ALL THREE SLUICES.

3. USE UPSTREAM PEDESTAL TO FILL LOCK AND OPEN TOP GATES (KEY NOT REQUIRED)

4. USE UPSTREAM PEDESTAL TO CLOSE TOP GATES AND SLUICES (KEY NOT REQUIRED)

5. MANUALLY OPEN BOTTOM SLUICES AND GATES

6. USE DOWNSTREAM PEDESTAL TO CLOSE GATES AND SLUICES. THEN REMOVE KEY.

NOTE: WHEN OPERATING PEDESTALS PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS SET OUT ON THE PEDESTAL

Where to start with why this is so confusing?: "Full Lock" is a poor term for "Large Boat" or similar: so "Full Lock Operating Instructions" could mean "All The Instructions You Would Ever Need" or "What To Do To Fill The Lock" _sigh_
