Boating was very uncertain during the Foot and Mouth crisis of 2001, and the opening of the Stalybridge end of the Huddersfield Narrow to boats was hardly publicised. Copperkins arrived at Stalybridge and to our surprise met boats returning from the first passage of Stalybridge locks. We continued through the afternoon, and were met here by BW as we emerged from Scout Tunnel.
