Boats ascending

On a sunny afternoon having entered the river from Duke's Cut at 5.15am, and returned to Oxford in the day in order to pay the Thames Conservancy, as it then was, only for one day's registration. "Licence is free, the Registration costs £..." was the words of the Conservancy in the letters to make the arrangements. The trip log says it's Bascot but not a contemporaneous account. The steps on the bottom left of the picture are in the right place. Modern pictures show the replacement metal bollards in the concrete and the shack near the bottom gates has been replaced.
