Well, this is where my log says it is. It has to be one of the DEEP locks on the Southern Oxford, with a bridge below from where to take the photo. There is now a set of steps at Somerton on the towingpath side (and similarly on all the deep locks), and the photo here does not extend to its right to show anything of the distinctive lockhouse. Also there is a small building in the far distance which is no longer there. Howard has just acquired a slice of toast, which suggests breakfast time and that fits with the timings on the log (although he could have been a late riser that morning). So if anyone can definitively place this photo further south, please feel free to move it there. I wonder if the white gate beyond the top lockgate helps?? It might be similar to the current white fence seen from the other side in another modern image hereabouts. The date of the photo is correct.
