Quayside Winding Hole is on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal (Leigh Branch).
The Leeds and Liverpool Canal (Leigh Branch) was built by Thomas Telford and opened on January 1 1876. In 1972 the canal became famous when John Harding swam through Wirral Tunnel in 36 hours live on television.

Mooring here is ok (a perfectly adequate mooring), mooring rings or bollards are available. Mooring is limited to 48 hours. Space for one boat (rings) and one boat (ring & pin) on offside near pub (Waterside Inn) was closed but open July 2025 & Aldi. Some noise from road bridge. Typical large town local 'characters' otherwise okay for an overnight before/after the Bridgewater.
