Winding hole at Leeds Liverpool Aqueduct #36

Hello,

The CRT online map of the Leeds Liverpool canal shows a winding hole, just north of Aqueduct 36. But this isn't shown on my Nicholson's guide. Nor is it recognised when I plan a route Canalplan, requiring the nearest turn round south of Salterforth.  Does anyone know if this actually is a winding hole?  It appears to be in the middle of a private boating club mooring.

I think that it is the club.

They may allow people to wind there - there are a couple of winding holes like that on the Shroppie.

charles

Thanks Stephen, does that mean that we should ask for permission to wind?

Stephen Atty

I don't know - we don't have it as a winding hole and neither does Nicholson's so we really don't know if it is a winding hole or not.

Either you need to contact the C&RT office for the reason or plan to use it anyway and accept that you might have to continue on to the next winding hole.

I guess we'll find out - one way or the other :)

I have written to C&RT and they assure me that it is a winding hole, although they are unsure about how long it has been there.

My particular problem is that I would like to recommend the Canalplan route planner to my hire customers and if I were able to recommend that winding hole, it would be a very convenient location.

We'll until we know its there its not really sensible to put it in. You could try adding it as a discussion topic on the location - soemthing like \"Is this where the winding hole is?\" More people might see that is it goes on the data changes feed.
