Relevant maps and guides

Sometimes, when planning a route, there will be several maps and guides listed as relevant - for instance, if you're looking at the Warwickshire Ring, right after the map, trip totals and overnight stops, and before the current stoppages, there's a list that includes Nicholson and Pearson's guides, and Heron, Waterway Routes, and Waterways Series maps.  If you're looking at the Caldon Branch, again the Nicholson guide and Waterway Routes maps are listed.

But if you planning a route along the Llangollen Canal or the Montgomery Canal, only the Waterway Routes maps are listed.  No guides, though I know that Heron Maps, Lockmaster Maps, Nicholson Waterway Guides, and Pearson's Canal Companion all cover those canals.

Am I inputing something wrong when I'm planning a route, that I do not see all relevant maps and guides?

They've probably not been added to the data.

¿Is that something a novice user can help with -- submitting relevant maps and guides that we're aware of, for your review|approval?

I believe it's done by editing the waterway and adding them - it's not something I've ever done.

Something seems to be broken somewhere.   You edit things by using \"major edit\" from the home page and looking for \"add, delete or edit a publication\".  From there you can find other guides that are added (such as Pearson's) but when you show them you get a completely blank page.  So in some way they have vanished from the associations with waterways and there's nothing to add them back.

I'm not sure why, but will investigate (and this could do with turning into a bug report to remind me)

There's a lot that's broken.  I'm deep in a major reengineering of how options are managed, but this need attention: I've added it as bug 1101.

I've now restored Pearson's and Nicholson's guides (having got rid of a bug that wiped the data for things under some circumstances).

It is fairly easy to add or update publications.   You add or edit them as things (so that they exist, and the name etc) from the \"Major edit\" menu from the main page.   You add or remove waterways they cover through the \"publications\" option on the edit menu where you can link the waterway to any publications that canalplan knows about.
