Summary0000500: Classified section
DescriptionHi,
Just a thought from a new member. How about a "Classified Ads" section.
From bits and bobs to engines to complete boats for sale / hire?
I know there are other sites providing this but anything that attracts viewers is a good thing isn't it?
Thanks,
Stuart Barkley

Theoretically we already have this as it could just be in the Forums part of the site. It would just need setting up.

I can add a section in the forums.

And link it in more directly than "bugs and ideas" -> Forums -> Particular forum. But if we can find a sensible place in the structure that doesn't clutter things up too much it should be easy enough to add that link.

Section is added but you can't link to Categories (Classifieds) only to forums within it (For Sale, Wanted etc). Will see if its possible to link to Categories.

I've added code to allow us to link to a specific category

https://canalplan.org.uk/forums/viewcategory.php?id=4

is the Classified Section.

I wonder if we can pull "info, help and privacy" and "changes bugs and ideas" into one or two better menu items with submenus or explanatory pages?

The first has policy statements on cookies, social media and advertising, plus links to help on common topics, the main help pages, and links (for users and search engines!) to lists of waterways, events, quotations etc.

The second has links to the program change log, to the database updates that also power the RSS feed, to forums, bug tracker and some documentation, plus some general comments about bug reporting and making changes.

I'm sure there's a more structured way to do this that could also pull the classifieds and any other sub-sections out. This might be a good place to put "advertise on CanalPlan" when I finally get free of map changes and get back to that.

I'm sure we can - maybe its time to revisit the menus and work out if we can move things round. We did at one point talk about putting Stoppages at the top level.

We can also shove more areas into the forums and now we can link at Category level it makes menus entries into the forums possible,
